Bouncing with Chanel

Another great one with Bounce - Carleen and Rachael brought us up to Las Vegas to help build an elaborate and gorgeous temporary Chanel museum at the Wynn. We built matrixed display walls, and did some very unique projection on to atypical surfaces. Here's a shot of a projection that appears inside an oversized bottle of Chanel perfume. Lots of keystone correcting and masking to make it look almost like a hologram. Fun times always with this group...

Indy producer David Shapiro asked us up to the high desert to reinforce audio for a stunt featuring mad-man Rob Dyrdek and a Chevy Sonic. Rob does whatever it is he does to get pumped up for this insanity, then he jumps in this stock Chevy Sonic, and hits a ramp that is far from level. Check out this test video of the event. Why, you ask? Why not?

Beverly Hills Sparkles

David Rodgers and Swarovski brought us along to help with a sculpture installation on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. This installation is a series of five Helix-shaped sculptures wrapped in flexible LED display. People all over the world can text or tweet Swarovski, and their messages are displayed on the LED sculptures. A live webcam allows people worldwide to see their messages appear on Rodeo. Hillary and the crew at Warner Brothers invited us to join them for the Environmental Media Awards on NY Street. The perfect location for an event, on a perfect night. We brought in 150 Versatubes and Chris G. did some sweet programming. The rig looked great live, and even better on camera. Debbie Levin is the president of EMA and she was just lovely to work with. The association believes that the entertainment industry has the power to influence environmental awareness on a large scale. They're right. Listen to em!

Charlie Sheen got roasted at Sony Studios last week. Does it get any better? Well maybe July's post is better, but barely. We freaked a bit when we heard that superstar MTV producer Matt Salerno was leaving the company. But we got to spend a really lovely weekend with new-to-MTVspecial events producer Patty DiMaria, doing the after-party for the Sheen Roast. Matt Levesque designed the rig and he had lots to light. The set was ultra hedonistic garden of eden. PERFECT for Mr. Tiger Blood himself.

Ubi in Koln Germany, Espy awards with Jason and Precision at the Palladium, Usher with new Favs Bounce at Paramount - ALL GOOD. But nothing is good with no down-time. I took my family to Paris for two weeks, then one more week exploring the French countryside. How do they fit all of that insanity in to one country? Seriously! Tres Jolie indeed!

The Bard, The Beam and The Boys

A city official red-tagged the main theater in Ashland Oregon 3 weeks before the opening of the country's biggest Shakespeare festival due to a failing roof beam. We got the call for help and we turned to Matt Leach as the fixer. Matt was on a plane the next morning, and he put together a temporary theater including a structure, flooring, seating, HVAC, power, all permitting and of course Shakespeare-quality sound lighting and video. We had trucks rolling a day later and the festival opened on time. This temporary theater is located in a gorgeous park in downtown Ashland. All the world is indeed a stage.

E3 REIGNS SUPREME

We had another fantastic experience working with the Ubisoft folks, for E3. Adam and I got to do our Paris meetings in April which seem to set the very positive tone for the rest of the year. This is a shot of the Press Conference we did the day before E3 opened. Ethos produced and provide scenic, David Flad was the LD and played back the content on the Winvision LED screens. Shawn Richardson kept the ship afloat, and Rick Boot had that room sounding sublime. So fun - getting ready to go to Cologne Germany with the Ubis, in August.

Sequoia and CHLA

We were honored to be invited to participate in the series of events leading up to the opening of the new Children's Hospital wing in Hollywood. Back-to-back weekends saw gorgeous events - first on Sunset Blvd. to light up the new building, then the following weekend at LA Live with a superbly produced show in the huge tent. We worked with David Corwin at Megavision to install a massive mapped video blend - 200' x 170' projection. Can you imagine how hard the engineers worked to warp the projectors to fit that moving-breathing-being that is the LA Live tent? Insane. This one was special as Adam's son Clayton has received stellar care from CHLA with complications from birth. Touching to be a part of this one.

COACHELLA STATE OF MIND

GRAMMY TIME AGAIN!

Our favorite week of the year. Got to catch Arcade Fire rehearsing for their performance on the show. Excellent. Here is a nice shot from Biz Bash of the Party which we lit and provided video projection. Larry Oberman was the LD again and nailed it as usual. Along Came Mary had us along for the ride again. The Theme was DISCO! Fun for all.

Golden Globes with LAD

Larry and company brought us along to dial in the uber-fancy BOA steakhouse in Beverly Hills for a star-studded Golden Globe event. Besides lighting the spaces, we provided a photo op booth which immediately posted images to a Cover Girl ad, mixing guest images with past Cover Girls. Really fun.

Justin T, Target and Obo storm LA

Obo comes to LA. NY based Obo productions called on ShowPro to support them for the launch of Justin Timberlake's new Target clothing line. It was massive exterior projection, arty interior tiled projection, gorgeous understated lighting, sound scaping and audio reinforcement for celebrity DJs, and the nation's coolest custom chandelier. World's Largest Pipe Organ comes to life

Mitch P and Matt Levesque brought this epic church out of the "dark ages" by installing hundreds of LED instruments for a permenant installation. The First Congregational Church in Los Angeles brought ShowPro in to illuminate their main sanctuary (which houses the world's largest pipe organ!), as well as their exterior tower and a few other smaller areas. To sit in this room and see the beauty of the architecture and hear that pipe organ is nothing short of inspiring.

VMAs in LA!

Precision Managed Events invited ShowPro to the VMA party at the beginning of the month. We love it when the VMAs are in LA! This was a really fun one - we did a 30' x 55' video projection with (4) 18K HDs, and loads of great lighting for LD Frank Olivas. N.E.R.D performed with Ciera for a live cut-away during the show. Hot and Fun man.

Ubisoft in Germany

We're starting to really enjoy this European gigging thing. The perfect clients from Ubisoft brought us to Cologne Germany this time. We built two booths for GamesCon. Armen and Courtney from Ethos were the design gurus, and the thing looked sweet. The boys report that the Germans were super kind and helpful - must be that 10% beer they drink. Another fun one.

Hot director billie wilder brought ShowPro in to provide state-of-the-art nightclub lighting for his latest film HONEY 2. We used over 400 Versatubes, circle trusses and automated lighting to pump massive energy in to the movie set. Look closely for Chris's cameo in the film!

Summer concert at the Santa Monica Pier

Our new fav client Larry Abel Designs brought us along to provide all technical production for a Pacsun show, next to the Santa Monica Pier. We provided sound, lighting, staging, power, video and webcast support for the show. 3500 people made it in the gates, and anther 2000 were outside the gates listening to the headliners. 16,000 Square Foot Projection

Felix Lighting invited ShowPro to play at a large Maxim event held on the back lot at Paramount Pictures. Dave from Felix wanted to cover the entire Blue Sky Wall with iconic imagery that was created for the event. Fox 24 Final!

We got the call from one of our favorite people on the planet, Stacey Esquith from Jordanah, to help her out with a unique arrivals kit for 24. ShowPro designer Chris Greulach put together this backlit-truss-versatube step and repeat wall that was a big hit. Stacey and Chris worked with a local graphics house to produce a material that was translucent. So all of the logos really popped on the red carpet. Add some truss and some versatubes, and you have a contemporary arrivals system!

Every Casino is a Winner!

Bowl Championship Series comes to the Rose Bowl

the 2010 BCS game was played this year in Pasadena, and Sequoia Productions brought us along to provide sound, lighting, video and projection for the 3000 person celebration at the new Pasadena Convention Center. Guests were treated to local cuisine as well as a live show featuring Taylor Hicks. The large event was loaded in, executed and loaded out within 48 hours. Nice way to start the year!

ShowPro Sets Scene for 51st GRAMMY® Awards

Los Angeles based ShowPro is setting the scene for the upcoming 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards with over 1500 HD VersaTubes™ for lighting designer Bob Dickinson and production design partners Steve Bass and Brian Stonestreet. The VersaTubes are mounted on various parts of the set including stair cases, rolling walls, and a unique mechanical “close down” wall on the downstage edge of the stage. One special performance will feature an array of VersaTubes as chandeliers and uprights. To facilitate the application, ShowPro did a pre-install at Scenic Express, a Los Angeles based scenic shop with the support of VER.

“This is a stunningly beautiful use of one meter and half meter HD VersaTubes” says ShowPro president David Smith. “This is our second year working with Full Flood on this show, and we are so impressed with Bob’s application of these devices not only as effective motion graphics tools for the camera, but as stand-alone sculptures as well. They’re just beautiful when applied in this setting.”

The GRAMMY Awards will feature performances by Paul McCartney, U2, Radiohead, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Timberlake, Neil Diamond and 15 other artists. The annual special airs Sunday, February 8 at 8pm et/pt in HD on CBS live from The Staples Center.

The 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards are produced by John Cossette Productions in association with AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy. Ken Ehrlich and John Cossette were executive producers.
